Recap

Lincoln High School Celebrates Centennial with Thrilling Homecoming Victory

In a memorable homecoming game that marked 100 years of Des Moines Lincoln High School, the Railsplitters triumphed over Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln with a score of 21-14. The game, played at the historic Hutchens Stadium for the last time before the grand opening of the new Mediacom Stadium later this fall, was filled with emotion as fans bid farewell to years of football played at Hutchens Metro Stadium.

The standout of the night was none other than Junior Running Back sensation, Javon Sanders. Sanders carried the ball an astonishing 28 times, setting a new school record with 337 yards and an impressive 3 touchdowns. His explosive performance left his mark on the crowd and yet again etched his name into the records of Lincoln Football history.

Junior Quarterback Jack Lamb orchestrated the offense brilliantly, completing 6 of 12 passes for a total of 61 yards. His primary target throughout the game was Senior wide receiver Aaron Guerrero, who hauled in 4 passes for 56 yards. Guerrero's contributions extended beyond offense, as he showcased his versatility with an interception on the defensive side of the ball.

On the defensive front, Junior Blake Butters led the charge with a stellar performance. Butters recorded 7.5 tackles, including 5 solo tackles, and an impressive 2.5 tackles for loss. His relentless pursuit of the ball set the tone for the Lincoln defense and made it difficult for Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln to gain ground.

With this significant win, Des Moines Lincoln improves to 3-2 on the season, showcasing a remarkable improvement from last year's record of 1-8. However, the Railsplitters now turn their attention to the formidable Waukee team, currently boasting a 4-1 record. Waukee's sole loss was against their cross-town rival, Waukee Northwest, this week's game against the Warriors is their Homecoming game which adds an extra layer of intensity to this matchup.

The stage is set for another exciting showdown as Des Moines Lincoln prepares to face Waukee at Warrior Stadium this Friday at 7 pm. With the momentum from this historic win and the spirit of their centennial celebration, the Railsplitters are determined to continue their upward trajectory in what promises to be an unforgettable season.
