Railsplitters Suffer Crushing Defeat Against Waukee

In a game that the Lincoln Railsplitters will undoubtedly want to forget, the Friday night clash against Waukee turned into a nightmare scenario. The final score of 58-0 tells the story of a contest that quickly spiraled out of control for the Railsplitters, and it was a game filled with adversity from the very beginning.

The first quarter started with high hopes, but halfway through, those hopes were dashed as starting quarterback Jack Lamb went down with a injury. Unfortunately, Lamb would not return for the rest of the game, leaving a massive void to fill on the offensive side of the ball.

As if losing their signal-caller wasn't enough, the Railsplitters also saw multiple other starters sustain injuries during the course of the game, further compounding their problems. The night seemed to be going from bad to worse.

Despite holding an insurmountable lead early on, Waukee chose to keep all of their starters in the game until the fourth quarter. Waukee also maintained their passing attack even through the second half and into the final quarter. This decision is sure to leave a bitter taste in the mouths of the Railsplitters and their fans.

Javon Sanders, the junior sensation for Lincoln, had a challenging night as he was held out of the endzone. However, his determination shone through as he managed to gain an impressive 96 yards on 24 carries, despite the abbreviated playing time.

Defensively, it was junior linebacker Blake Butters and junior free safety Judd Dietrich who stood out for the Railsplitters. Butters led the charge with 7 tackles, while Dietrich contributed with 5 tackles. Their efforts, though valiant, were not enough to stop the relentless Waukee offense.

This game against Waukee is one that the Railsplitters will undoubtedly circle on their calendars in the future. It will serve as motivation and a stark reminder of the challenges they faced on this Friday night.

Looking ahead, the Railsplitters will return home this Thursday night for a  matchup against #19 Sioux City East at the legendary Hutchens Stadium. It's a game that holds a special place in the hearts of fans, as it marks the last contest to ever be played at this iconic venue.

After this game, the Railsplitters will transition to the new Mediacom Stadium, a shared facility among Lincoln, Roosevelt, North, and Hoover metro schools, marking the beginning of a new era for Lincoln High School football. Despite the recent setback, the Railsplitters will be looking to make this final game at Hutchens Stadium one to remember for all the outgoing seniors and fans in attendance not too mention build momentum for the future in their new home.
