The Railsplitters travel to Marshalltown to face the Bobcats

The Railsplitters look to improve their record this Friday, September 30 when they travel to Marshalltown to take on the Bobcats. Both teams come into the game with 1-4 records. This is the 46th meeting for the schools, with the Bobcats leading the series 26-19.

The series started in 1953 with both teams meeting to open the season from 1953 to 1990, with the exception of 1969 and 1990, when they met in the second game of the season.Lincoln’s longest winning streak is four games, as the Railsplitters defeated the Bobats from 1960-63.

Last season the Railsplitters upended the Bobcats 27-18 behind the strong play of all-state Josh Jenkins, who rushed 26 times for 234 yards and four touchdowns.

Offensively. The Railsplitters come into the contest with an average of 197 yards per game of offense; Lincoln is paced on the ground by sophomore Blake Butters who has gained 132 yards on 18 carries. Landon Walters has completed 28 of 66 passes for 395 yards and two touchdowns; his top receiver is Leo Jones with 143 yards and one touchdown.

On defense Jones leads with 29.0 tackles, followed by David Wesley with 25 tackles, and Harry Ster with 20.5. Ster has also converted all 12 extra points and nailed one field goal.

PAST MARSHALLTOWN-LINCOLN HIGHLIGHTS

1953- First series meeting with the Bobcats defeating Lincoln 7-6.

1956- The Railsplitters win 33-0 behind two touchdowns by Norm Timmons

1963- Lincoln wins its 100th game in school history with a 13-6 victory at Marshalltown

1966- Hutchens Stadium is christened with a 26-6 Lincoln defeat of the Bobcats. Steve Young completes 8 of 15 passes, scores once and throws two touchdown passes.

1970- Sixth-ranked Lincoln, behind a 179-yard rushing evening from Phil Hayman drop Marshalltown, 27-6.

1971- Phil Hayman and Tom Comiskey combine for 266 yards of Lincoln’s 311 yards as the seventh-ranked Railsplitters slip past the Bobcats, 22-18.

1974- Marshalltown returns a kickoff for a touchdown and add an extra point with no time remaining to upset the 10th-ranked Railsplitters, 7-6.

1975- Lincoln recovers six Bobcat fumbles and upset the eighth-ranked Bobcats, 14-12. Doug Long scores both Lincoln touchdowns.

1976- Tenth-ranked Lincoln upsets seventh-ranked Marshalltown, 7-6, when Lincoln stops a two–point conversion late in the contest to secure the win.

1981- Tom Ramsey catches a 65-yard pass from Bob Carle as Lincoln upsets fifth-ranked Bobcats, 7-3.

1997- Pete Sterbick sets a school record with 11 receptions but the Railsplitters fall, 45-28.
